Mount Fuji (Japanese: ふじさん; English: Mount Fuji is located in the south-central part of Honshu Island, Japan, about 80 kilometers east of Tokyo,  35.361° N, 138.728° E, 3776 meters above sea level,  across Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures,  covering an area of about 1200 square kilometers.  The volume is about 500 cubic kilometers.  Mount Fuji is the highest peak in Japan and one of the largest active volcanoes in the world.  Mount Fuji is part of the Fuji Ring of Fire, a chain of volcanoes that extends primarily from the Mariana Islands through the Izu Islands and the Izu Peninsula to the northern part of Honshu. 
Mount Fuji is one of the classic symbols of Japanese spirit and culture.  In the hearts of the Japanese people, it is a sacred mountain with natural charm, beauty and solemnness. Since ancient times, it has been the theme of Japanese literature, but also the sacred place of Japanese reverence, is a part of Japanese folk religion.  Mt. Fuji is conical in shape and covered with snow all year round. Around the foothills of Mount Fuji, there are five freshwater lakes, collectively known as the "Fuji Five Lakes". 
Mount Fuji is rated as one of the three spirit mountains in Japan and one of the top 100 mountains in Japan.  It is called "Furong Peak" or "Fu Yue" and "the best High mountain".  In February 1936, it was designated as Fuji Hakone Izu National Park. On June 22, 2013, Mount Fuji was inscribed on the World Heritage List by the 37th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee, becoming the 17th World Heritage Site in Japan. The registered name of Mount Fuji at the time of its inclusion on the Heritage List was determined to be "Mount Fuji - an object of faith and a source of art".
